Limewash Dupe DIY
While we are on the subject of the perfect Cottage Living Room Makeover, I absolutely love me some limewashed walls! It adds so much texture and I was surprised by how eeeeeasy and inexpensive it can be! This will eventually have its very own tutorial but I almost am not sure how to make one because its so simple!
My local paint shop had a bunch of extra interior paint that they gave away for free…. highly recommend you check with your local companies and get yourself some! So I started experimenting… What I learned was limewash is just basically watercolor! There are so many paint companies charging premium prices for the tints and additives for limewash, it is so intimidating and a big investment! I got the same look for FREE! Here is the recipe!
Limewash Recipe!
Here is the recipe for limewash paint….
Half Latex Paint+ Half Water= Limewash dupe
The key to getting a limewash look is the application, its all about that X pattern. You will want to paint a base color that will completly cover your wall just as you normally would. Next, you will add your accent color that is only slightly darker using the half and half recipe. Dab your rag gently in your accent color and smear in an X pattern, slowly move out and around continuously smearing in an X to blend until your rag has used all the paint. Then pick a spot about six inches away, dab small amount of paint again and go for another X. The less paint you use, the easier it will be to blend. For an entire wall, I only used two cups of my accent paint and water mixture.
It’s really that simple!
